large product photo   The Vandalia Rodworks Cap & Ring Seat

The concept of the cap and ring seat is an old one. It has been used on bamboo rods for nearly a century. It holds a reel perfectly, looks beautiful, and is a unique reel seat found mostly on bamboo rods only.

Our design was created by Lee himself. It is simple, but perfect. The ring has a slight taper on the bottom so that it fits a reel foot snugly and a decorative bead on the top that matches the cork check. The top of the cap has a similar decorative bead. The cap also has the same interior taper to grab the reel foot.

The seat is machined out of solid Nickel Silver barstock using metal lathes.

The reel seat can be blued for an additional upcharge.

Wood Spacers

We cut the spacers for our reel seats out of wood gathered locally in WV. Most of the wood gathered has a story behind it. Much of it is gathered during hunting and fishing trips. We have a large inventory of wild cherry, black walnut, maple and varying stocks of neat stuff like Box Elder, Osage Orange, and even some private stock of American Chestnut (extra cost on that one!)

We cut the mortise in reel seat spacers by hand with a chisel. It adds a hand hewn touch to a hand made rod. There may be small inaccuracies in the lines and depths, but remember why you are buying a handcrafted bamboo rod to begin with and things like that should make you happier.

  Double Sliding Band

We can also make a double sliding band seat using two of our sliding bands and a cork or wood spacer with a swell at the butt of the reel seat. The cap on the bottom of the seat can be nickel silver, aluminum or a coin of choice.

  Aftermarket Reel Seats

If you prefer a threaded style seat or perhaps just don't like the lines of our seats. No problem. There are hundreds of reel seat manufacturers that make fantastic seats that we can recommend. The cost to you is simply whatever the part costs us to purchase.
